Toward UEH’s 50th Anniversary: A Series of 22 Co-Creative Activities for a Sustainable Future

50 years of development alongside the nation, nearly 300,000 learners across generations (1975-2026). More than a time to look back and express gratitude, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) announces a series of 22 large-scale key activities to ignite the spirit of co-creation for a sustainable future together with the community.

Established on October 27, 1976, UEH was entrusted with the historic mission of training human resources in economics and management, directly contributing to national development and nation-building

From the mission of nation-building through knowledge to the legacy of values left behind

Emerged in the context of national reconstruction after 1975, and formally established on October 27, 1976, after assuming training functions, UEH was entrusted with a historic mission: to train human resources in economics and management, thereby directly contributing to national development and nation-building.

After nearly half a century, UEH has continuously transformed itself, leaving many marks in teaching, research, consulting, and contributions to economic and social development, while promoting autonomy, international integration, advanced university governance, and transforming from a single-discipline university model into a multidisciplinary, multi-field university that pioneers action for sustainable development.

To date, UEH has been recognized both nationally and internationally, ranking among the Top 15 universities in Southeast Asia (THE 2026) and as one of the leading Vietnamese universities.

More than a journey, these milestones have left behind 8 enduring values: from Unity – Compassion, which laid the foundation, to Dedication – Community – Pioneering, which built stature, and now Creation – Sustainability – Internationalization, opening up the image of a globally integrated university.

UEH calls this its “heritage of internal strength” – the foundation for action and breakthrough in the new phase.

On this basis, the series of 22 activities is being implemented as a strategic action framework, spanning teaching, research, governance, operations, and community engagement.

Implementing the Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University Strategy, UEH defines Glo-cal Education as a differentiated educational model, connecting global thinking with local context and development needs. Accordingly, training programs are designed to link academic knowledge with market practice, while encouraging learners to apply interdisciplinary knowledge to solve socio-economic problems.

Inspiring Glo-cal Classes aiming at linking academic knowledge with market practice

The Series of 50+ Inspiring Glo-cal Classes is being implemented to gradually transform courses at UEH towards greater practicality, through the participation of experts from businesses, organizations, and external agencies.

Program of 50+ Inspiring Glo-cal Classes: Connecting Academic Knowledge with Practice

The Glo-cal classes are developed with the objective of enhancing applicability in training, with the following key characteristics:

  • Participation of experts in the field from businesses, organizations, or external agencies outside UEH
  • Class content connecting academic theory with practical issues, encouraging integration of topics on sustainable development, social responsibility, and global context
  • Students undertake exercises, projects, or practical case analyses, applying interdisciplinary knowledge to solve problems
  • Class output is a major assignment or project, demonstrating student engagement in solving practical issues at businesses, localities, or communities

The Glo-cal classes are implemented across UEH’s 12 training fields (corresponding to 57 training programs), aiming to provide a learning experience linked to practice and help students directly access professional perspectives from experts in various fields.

Connecting Practical Experts in the Glo-cal Classroom

Concurrently with implementing the class series, UEH is developing a team of UEH Practical Lecturers – experienced experts, managers, and entrepreneurs who participate in teaching, sharing, and accompanying learners. This force contributes to bringing practical issues of businesses, localities, and the market into the classroom, thereby helping students access multi-dimensional professional perspectives and enhance their ability to apply knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Activity series “Through the Lenses of Time”

Accompanying “Embracing Our Legacy”, the “Through the Lenses of Time” journey offers a perspective of remembrance, gratitude, and pride in UEH’s half-century path, honoring historical milestones, pioneering generations, and quiet contributions.

This journey is depicted through the lenses of time, connecting memories, images, and experiences across generations: UEH 50 TVC recreating the spirit and resilience of each generation; UEH History Art Book – an artistic publication documenting the development journey; Limited-edition gift sets bearing the strong imprint of 50 years; UEH 50 Music Album spreading inspiration through music; Photo Exhibition + VR “Past & Present”, where viewers can “step through time” to witness UEH’s transformation from its early days to the present.

Unlocking the Heritages Shaping UEH’s Future

From the journey of looking back and continuing onward through these two key activity series, each UEHer will gradually unlock the next 04 heritages shaping the future – legacies inherited from history and transformed into capabilities for action, serving as the foundation for the strategic phase 2025-2045 ahead.

These heritages are not isolated; they are tightly interconnected, forming the inner strength foundation for UEH to convert the past into momentum for the future. They will be introduced, clarified, and disseminated step by step through activities, experiences, and specific stories in the UEH 50 journey.

To give the UEHers community a comprehensive overview and easy way to follow this journey, UEH will introduce a centralized information space, connecting the heritages, activity series, and milestones of the UEH 50 journey in a unified system.

The story of that space will be shared in the next article!

Half a century has passed, from a book of knowledge with the mission of nation-building in 1976, to today, UEH has risen to become a university advancing in the Asian region.

That is the journey of knowledge preserved and transformed across generations of UEHers.

From Unity – Compassion, which laid the foundation in the early years; to Dedication –  Community – Pioneering, shaping today’s identity and position; to Co-creation –  Sustainability – Internationalization, opening the vision for the future.

Eight core values crystallized into inner heritages, connecting past – present – aspirations, and continuing to guide UEH in co-creating the future.

[UEH 50 Years] From Knowledge Legacy – Human Strength – To a Sustainable Future: Writing the Next Remarkable 50 Years Together with UEH

Half a century of development is a process of accumulating inner strength, forging identity, and continuously transforming to adapt to each stage of the country’s and the era’s progress.

At this special milestone, the UEHers community looks back on the past with pride, connects the present to spread inspiration, and opens up the future with 5 heritages shaping future inner strength – legacies inherited from history, transformed into capabilities for action, and serving as the foundation for the upcoming strategic phase of 2025–2045.

UEH Day 2025 – The first foundation legacy: The ONE UEH cultural compass

In July 2025, in Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa, nearly 900 UEHers gathered for UEH Day 2025, a deeply meaningful connection event that marked the official launch of the journey toward UEH’s 50th anniversary.

In the “Together We Share” space, the UEHers community shared responsibilities, vision, and aspirations for a common future. It was here that the first heritage in the journey of shaping the future was officially unveiled: the ONE UEH Cultural Compass, embodying traditional and modern values with historical continuity, forming the culture of “One UEH” – the guiding compass that shapes the identity of UEH people through the years.

The ONE UEH Cultural Compass

The 50th anniversary celebration series (from February to December 2026) and the journey to unlock the next four future-driving legacies

Building on the first heritage, UEH enters the peak phase of the 50th anniversary activity series with 02 flagship activity series, running from February to December 2026:

  • “UEH 50: Through the Lenses of Time” Series: Commemoration, gratitude, and pride in UEH’s half-century journey, honoring historical milestones, pioneering generations, and quiet contributions. The series is narrated through the lenses of time, connecting memories, images, and experiences across generations.
  • “Embracing Our Legacy” series: 24 innovative activities tied to the 5 strategic pillars – Training, Research, Community Connection, Governance, and Operations – igniting new momentum for the entire UEH community to act toward the 2045 vision.

Through these two series, the next 04 heritages shaping the future will gradually be unveiled, laying the foundation for UEH’s new development phase!

From inner heritages to a sustainable future

UEH 50 is not merely a celebration of a milestone. This is the moment for UEH to transform through “innovative change” built on 50 years of inner heritage, while conveying a “differentiated” image: a prestigious key university with deep traditions yet innovative, modern, and international, guided by an educational philosophy of serving the community and sustainable action.

In the coming time, the “UEH 50 Years” series will continue delivering new messages, creative interactive experiences, and activities with deeper and broader connections – step by step unfolding the journey of connecting knowledge heritage – people – sustainable future to discover 05 inner strengths for the future.

Join us in unlocking the heritages shaping the future in the upcoming articles!
